And sycophantic language models which create echo chambers (see articles re chatbots going demonic).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 The Verge &gt; &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/23604075\/ai-chatbots-bing-chatgpt-intelligent-sentient-mirror-test\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Introducing the AI Mirror Test, which very smart people keep failing<\/a>&#8221; by James Vincent (Feb 17, 2023) \u2013 What is important to remember is that chatbots are autocomplete [software] tools [2]. \u2026 mimicking speech does not make a computer sentient [1].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Having spent a lot of time with these chatbots, \u2026 [heady lyrical reactions are] overblown and tilt us dangerously toward a false equivalence of software and sentience. A &#8220;<em>prompt injection attack<\/em>?&#8221; The ability to override (tacked-on) guardrails. Shades of &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Forbidden_Planet\">monsters from the ID<\/a>,&#8221; eh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 The Washington Post &gt; &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2023\/02\/14\/chatgpt-dan-jailbreak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The clever trick that turns ChatGPT into its evil twin<\/a>&#8221; by Will Oremus (February 14, 2023) \u2013&nbsp;Reddit users are pushing the popular AI chatbot&#8217;s limits \u2013 and finding revealing ways around its safeguards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u2026 when a 22-year-old college student prodded ChatGPT to assume the persona of a devil-may-care alter ego \u2014 called &#8220;DAN,&#8221; for &#8220;Do Anything Now&#8221; \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DAN has become a canonical example of what&#8217;s known as a &#8220;<em>jailbreak<\/em>&#8221; \u2014 a creative way to bypass the safeguards OpenAI built in to keep ChatGPT from spouting bigotry, propaganda or, say, the instructions to run a successful online phishing scam.
